The mastermind behind this new Dance Music label is Sam Peņa (a.k.a. Livewater). After a busy 2005 providing official remixes for upcoming artists and a handful of unofficial ones, Sam began researching the new wave of digital distribution that is practically changing the face of the music industry especially in the Dance genre. Working with artists like Corey Andrew, Randy Friess, Chris Warnick and Jason J, Sam realized that there are musicians, vocalists and performers out there that have not been given the opportunity to get the exposure and recognition for their talent. Deciding not to wait to be discovered, he felt this responsibility shouldn't rely on someone else, so he made the decision to create his own label. Aside of wanting to produce his own music, he created a new concept when working with upcoming singers and remixers where it's all about the music. No long-term contracts bind them, the artists own their masters, and most importantly, they get proper compensation for the sales of their music. HMSPmusic moves away from the traditional music industry practices and terminology used such as "royalties", "advances", "A&R department", and other well known lingoes. He has created a practical and simplified way to work with, promote, execute and compensate the artists he works with without compromising the quality and integrity of the music and the artist through by their music. Knowing this has never been done before, he strongly felt he was on to something.
HMSPmusic by default can be considered a label, but Sam sees it as a launching platform that intends to provide a voice for new Dance artists. Establishing important contacts for music distribution like www.beatport.com in the United States and www.juno.co.uk in the United Kingdom and internet radio sites like last.fm, HMSPmusic serves as a bridge between the artists and this new way of promoting and musician exposure on the Internet. It also gives Sam as Livewater the opportunity to showcase his music and remixing abilities. It's a formula that both the label and the artists benefit from.
HMSPmusic's philosophy is quite simple, "Do more with less." Sam plans on keeping the label small while providing massive promotion and exposure to singers and producers that join the label. With artists like Randy Friess and Chris Warnick on board, HMSPmusic is well on its way to paving the way for upcoming artists that would otherwise not be heard.
