Tony Thomas & Alan Barratt, also known as "The Producers", formed NEW ERA RECORDINGS in 1999. At the time they were both mainly producing and Dj'ing pure hard techno, but were also getting involved in the illegal free party scene where they were mixing up house and techno together, and this sparked up their interest in house music. Quite simply the two of them were trying to make house music which they did'nt know that much about, and really thought that they were actually making house, but in fact the tunes were of a different style to house altogether. Yes, it was "like" house music but it also had elements of techno and acid house, and in fact what they were producing was the forerunner of what we now call "tech-house". It was a record deal that they got with End recordings that made them realise that their music was in fact tech-house. Their track "Flying The Funky Path" (one of End Records' biggest sellers to date) apparently defined the sound that was tech house at the time, and this is the term that the music press were using to describe the sound of The Producers. So Alan & Tony formed New Era Recordings as an outlet for their "tech-house" music. Over the years the label has released great music from many top international artists, and has evolved in diversity and richness embracing the many different facets of house music, from tech right through to soulful.
