Deep Linking

October 10th, 2007 by Dan

In this weeks feature focus we look at Deep Linking. Many of you have asked for the direct URL to link to a label, a release or an artist. Now you can do that! On every label, release and artist page there is a link in the left hand nav that reads “Link to this …” By clicking on it, the URL of that page will open up and you can cut and paste it into your email newsletter, your blog, your website, whatever you like.

Deep Linking

This is especially useful for artists who want to promote their latest release. It is useful for people who want to email their friends a page of great music. It’s useful for labels who want to promote their label page on Play It Tonight.

Enjoy this new feature!

Play It Tonight 4.0 Launches !

October 4th, 2007 by Dan

We are very pleased to announce the launch of Play It Tonight 4.0. The site features an entirely new look and a bunch of new features. Play It Tonight 4.0 is a major upgrade from the last version. We listened carefully to your feedback and implemented a lot of your ideas. Enjoy the new site, you helped build it!

Here’s an outline of the new features:

WISHLIST
YOUR # 1 REQUEST IS NOW A REALITY!
This is our most requested new feature! In your crate, you can now move tracks over to your “Wishlist”. This means that you can buy a certain number of tracks and keep possible future tracks in your wishlist. Move tracks back and forth whenever you want. Not sure you want to buy something this week? No problem! Move it to your wishlist so you can come back to it later. Need one track today? You can do that now! You don’t have to delete all the songs in your crate to buy one song, just move them to your wishlist, and buy the song(s) you want today.

FAVORITES
This exciting new feature allows you to add your favorite labels and artist to your “My Favorites” section. When you log in to Play It Tonight, there is an indicator showing you if there are any new releases from your favorite artists and labels. Clicking on this link takes to you a page where you see all the new tracks. You can add up to 4,000 labels and artists to your Faves.

RECOMMENDED TRACKS
Play It Tonight has designed software to recommend music to you based on your preview and purchase history. Click on the “Recommended Tracks” button to view the tracks we think you’ll enjoy.

PLAY ALL
At the bottom of Top 10’s, Top 100’s and Genre pages is a new button that reads “Play All.” By clicking on this button, the player will play EVERY song on that page, in the order that they are displayed. Sit back and enjoy the music. Hear something you like? Click on the “Buy” button in the player and that track will be added to your crate, and the music will keep on playing.

TOP 100 DOWNLOADS
There is a new button at the bottom of each Top Downloads list where you can view not just the top 10 most recently downloaded tracks, but the top 100!. This can be seen on every genre, every label and every artist.

NEW LABEL PAGES
Now you can view your favorite labels in a whole new light. The label landing pages showcase the 6 most recent releases, with the new option to view all label tracks, or all label albums. The top 10 downloads features a link to see the label’s top 100 downloads. A link to “Add To Your Faves” is on every label page as well.

NEW ARTIST PAGES
Now you can view your favorite artists picture & bio, along with their best selling tracks, along with the new feature of viewing all their tracks at once, or all their albums at once. A link to “Add To Your Faves” is on every artist page as well.

CHARTS
There is a newly designed charts section with charts from Big name DJ’s.

LABELS
The new labels page lists the best selling labels, both as a whole, and for each letter of the alphabet.

ARTISTS
The new artists page lists the best selling artists, both as a whole, and for each letter of the alphabet.

GENRE LANDING PAGES
The new genre landing pages showcase the best selling labels and artists within that genre, along with the top 10 downloads and a link to view the top 100.

Easing the stiff upper lip…

October 2nd, 2007 by Sean Gallagher

Aside from having dance music play everywhere, one of the largest differences that I have found with the English culture is that people seem to keep to themselves a lot. In a lot of smaller towns people will greet each other on the street and generally look forward to meeting new people. On the flip side, in the big cities people keep their heads down and generally mind their own business.

As I mentioned above, dance music (mostly house) is everywhere here. Even today I was having lunch in an amazing Chinese resteraunt and heard the following track:

Boss Records Listen Make Your Move (Dare Me)
Club mix
Dave Armstrong Boss Records
2007-04-06
8:58 $1.48

This is not exactly your typical Chinese restaurant music.

I was pondering why dance music took off so fast and furious over here in the 80s and it wasn’t really making sense. There is so much heritage and culture in England but that doesn’t explain it. People have their own musical tastes in all areas of the world, so that doesn’t explain it.

It didn’t click for me until I was walking down the street in London and someone bumped into me and didn’t say a word. One word jumped out at me “ecstasy”. With such a lack of friendliness and togetherness in day to day street life in the super-cities like London, its no wonder why the feeling of oneness that the combination of dance music and drugs like ecstasy caught on so quickly and took the highly-populated nation by storm.

Dance Music House MP3s Download

You will see it in the clubs here in London; kids freaking out with each other, hugging, smiling, laughing and letting all of the stresses and the self mindedness go. People party together when dance music is present and the feelings that it brings up can defiantly be addictive, especially when you are raised in a culture where the people keep a ‘stiff upper lip‘ and their heads down in the big city.

Audio Vegas

I’ve been checking out some Audio Vegas on the site, mainly their “Drama EP” which is a good mix of some pretty high energy techy/electro. Some really nice stuff.

Audio Vegas are signed to Benny Benassi’s label Pump-kin, which seems to be doing quite well for itself since starting last year.

Another stellar gig thanks 2 Play It Tonight

August 21st, 2007 by Sean Gallagher

This past weekend I played another gig at Ginger 62, Vancouver’s hottest club for House Music. It was the most fun I have had DJing in some time and I thought I would share a few pictures and a bunch of the tracks that I played to share the experience.

I still can’t believe that I get paid to drink for free, play awesome tracks from Play It Tonight and have girls come up to meet me while I play. The girls were loving the tracks from our site.

Rocking it.

Oh How I Love The Kick Drum

August 14th, 2007 by Dan

Kick Drum

No matter what song, no matter how many times, when that kick drum drops, people loose their mind. I love witnessing this over and over. The kick drum unites everyone. It is as ancient as music itself… some of the first music was banging on a drum.. in every culture, in every corner of the world, people dance to the drum. Thankfully we are pre-disposed to move to the rythmic pattern of the drum. It can’t be denied. It’s fascinating watching even the youngest of children dance around the second their hear the drum. It is in every one of us. In our blood, our soul.

Bang on House Music, Bang On.
