“My aim since I began working on music back in 1992 has always been to create something that can stand the test of time, timeless. The majority of my favorite music has been in rotation for many years, it still sounds good. I can listen to Bob Marley, Depeche Mode or Miles Davis and in an instant be transported into their work. Universal Truth evolved out of my desire to create a whole body of work, an album, which I can sit back and listen to. I really just created this record for myself. I wasn't really thinking about marketing or genre. I merely wanted a body of music that I really loved.
The songs contained on the album are stories from my life the past 5 years. Writing music is therapy for my soul and the music contained on this record is the result of my experiences. Every song on this record is about someone close to me. To me the meaning of Universal Truth is something like the equivalent of common knowledge for the heart.” – Andy Caldwell
On his debut artist album “Universal Truth” (Om Records), critically acclaimed producer/songwriter/DJ Andy Caldwell delves into an uncharted world of rock/electronic/house, bringing his signature strong songwriting and production to the forefront. Featuring vocalists Gina René (Soulstice), Amma (Naked Music), Lisa Shaw (Naked Music), Omega (Afro-Mystik/Blackalicious) and Latrice Barnett (Ultra) with live instrumentation (recorded primarily by Andy himself) “Universal Truth” is guaranteed to turn many heads in not just the dance community, but the alternative / indie rock crowd as well. Andy’s musical journey begins in the San Francisco Bay Area over a decade ago. Having a passion for the art of music long before the advent of “electronica,” and a decade before embarking on a career in DJ’ng, producing and songwriting, Andy’s true musical expression hit all new levels in the wake of San Francisco's early 90’s underground rave explosion, when the one-time concert trumpeter and piano player subordinated his horn and foot-pedals in favor of two turntables and a bag of vinyl.
Collaborating with DJ/producers such as co-writing/producing Kaskade’s hit single “Everything” (Billboard #1 Dance Club Play and Top 10 Dance Commercial Radio Charts) Caldwell has also done several remixes for the Yoshitoshi label, including the Grammy nominated track "Safe from Harm" by Narcotic Thrust. Further expanding his reach, Caldwell's signature production style is also recognized in the film and television industries. He has composed music for films such as Forces of Nature and Skulls, as well as popular television series’ Six Feet Under, Boston Public, and Chromium Blue.
With an ever-expanding discography, Caldwell has only just begun to fulfill his passion for music, with frequent DJ tours, remix opportunities, production work and finally his debut artist album!!! For over the past 10 years, his DJ schedule has allowed him to share his love of music with fans around the world, performing as a DJ / musician in every major city on every continent.
